Crying is a physiological process in the life of a baby. All normal babies cry to communicate with others.Sine they can’t express their feelings in words crying is the only way for communication. If any uncomfortable feeling comes they simply cry.Normally babies cry in situations like hunger, wetting, too heat or cold, tight cloaths, pain ect. Some kids need the presence of somebody otherwise will cry simply.Crying without any cause is habitual in some babies. Eventhough crying is considered as normal it may worry the family members.Since the reasons for crying ranges from simple causes to serious causes it should not be ignored and hence exact cause has to be identified and managed accordingly.

The following are some points which should be considered while dealing with a crying baby.

1. It is dangerous to shake the baby vigorously.

2. Tight cloaths can cause irritation hence it should be removed.

3. If the room is hot put the fan and open the windows.

4. If the nappy is wet remove it and after cleaning the parts make it dry with a soft towel.

5. Pat her back or stroke her head slowly and let her here your soothing sound.

6. Give breast milk and make her quiet.

7. If the climate is cold cover her in soft towel.

8. Rock her gently in your arms and walk slowly in the room.

9. Take a music making doll and let her listen.

10. Try a pacifier or help her for thumb sucking.

11. If no response change her position.

12. Walk outdors with her.

13. Put her on the cradle and rock gently.

14. If no response ask somebody to carry the baby.

Even after all these steps the baby goes on crying see for the following signs.

( Probable cause is given after every sign)

1. Press her abdomen gently, she may twist or resist you:—Colic

2. Pull her ear gently she may become worse or push your hands away:—Earache.

3. Feel her temperature with the back of your hands:–Fever due to any infection.

4. Examine the skin from head to foot:–Eruptive disease, nappy rash, measles, vesicles, allergy ect.

5. See the nose for any discharge:–Coryza.

6. Move the head gently to feel any neck stiffness:–Meningitis, head injury ect.

7. Keep your ear near her chest to hear any rattling sound:–Increased mucus in wind pipes.

(pneumonia,bronchiolitis,asthamatic bronchitis ect)

8. Examine the anal orifice:–Anal erosion,rectal polyp,crawling of worms.

9. Examine the genitalia:–Any discharge or erosion.

10. In male baby see the testicles which may be swollen or tender:–Orchitis, torsion of testes.

11. also notice the body movements and see for any convulsions, rigors, vomiting, cough, laboured breathing ect.

If you see the above signs or any other abnormal signs consult your doctor for proper treatement.

After nine months of excited anticipation, your precious bundle makes his debut and you can’t wait to show him off to the world. But first, you must make the transition from the hospital, with a staff to educate and support your efforts at baby care, to the comfort of home where all of the responsibility will fall on Mom and Dad. Yikes! All of a sudden it dawns on you; you have never done this before.

The first step for new parents is to relax, and remember that every parent has experienced that momentary panic at the idea of first-time baby care. The good news is that all babies survive those first few days at home with their parents with nary a scratch, so rest assured that yours will also. The key to managing those first few days and weeks is to arm yourself with the baby care basics that will carry you through everything from diaper rash and diaper bags, to bottles and burping.

Ask for Help

The first few weeks with your new baby are some of the most challenging in many ways, so don’t be afraid to ask for help. Having someone there to assist can be a great calming influence as well as an invaluable source of advice and information. A mother’s body will also need to adjust to the postpartum stage of her pregnancy, which includes rest and recovery for Mom as well as baby. Someone who can pick up the slack in the baby care department so that you can rest will help speed your recovery as well as build your confidence in your new parenting role.

Kisses and Cuddles

The first days and weeks are also a time for you and your new little one to bond with each other, so enjoy all of the cuddling you would like during this time. Your baby will thrive under your gentle touch, and the physical closeness will translate to an emotional bonding as well. In these early stages, there is no way that you can spoil an infant by giving him too much cuddle time so pick him up to your heart’s content. Make sure that both parents get equal time on the “snuggle” part of the baby care as well, since Dad needs his time to bond with baby too.

Answers to your Baby Care Questions

The rest of the baby care basics are made up mostly of diapering, feeding, sleeping and bathing, since those little bundles do little else during the first weeks of life! For answers to your questions about these baby care basics, you can consult from a virtual library of baby care books. It is a good idea to have a couple on hand before your infant’s arrival so you will be prepared before the first labor pains even hit. Your doctor is another invaluable source of information on the baby care basics. Since you will be seeing him frequently in the first year of your child’s life, you will have ample opportunity to have all of your questions answered.

A new baby can be a frightening as well as an exciting adventure. Take some of the concerns out of this process by educating yourself on the baby care basics before you ever bring your bundle home.

A few decades ago, probably when you were a child, breastfeeding was not in style. Breastfeeding was not something that was encouraged as it is today. Doctors did not fully understand how wonderful it is for a newborn baby. For that reason and a few others, many mothers went directly to the bottle, often times without even attempting to breastfeed.

Now that we know how nourishing breast milk is for your baby, it is a practice highly encouraged by doctors and health care professionals alike. Breast milk supports brain function and provides valuable nutrients not available anywhere else. It is so special that every mother’s milk is slightly different, tailored to her own baby’s needs. A baby’s immune system is directly affected by breast milk.

Each feeding time is a very important time of the day, it allows the mother and child time to bond without any distractions. Many new mothers can feel strange holding their new baby, but feeding time is when the mother really gets to know her baby and feel comfortable with him or her.

Milk induced sleep is one of the sweetest things a mother will experience. Newborn babies love to be held and they also love to eat. When you combine the two you get a very sleepy baby who will cuddle in their mother’s arms long after the feeding is over. Even when you are trying to instill a naptime, no mother can resist the urge to keep rocking their baby after the feeding is over – at least once or twice.

When just starting out, a new mother may encounter some complications including sore and blistered nipples, mastitis or improper latching on the baby’s part. It is very important to overcome these issues, and although it may not seem like it, they can be overcome.

Within the first week or two, any sore or blistered nipples should clear up. It can seem like quite a struggle but try bringing a cup of tea to feeding time. This will help soothe the mother and help her get through the initial pain.

Mastitis can be a very painful problem. It’s basically the mother’s milk backing up in her system. The best remedy – though always check with your doctor as he may want to prescribe antibiotics – is to feed through the problem. Warm baths can also help soothe the engorged breasts.

Although most babies have a built-in latching instinct, some babies latch improperly, causing a lot of pain to the mother. These problems are usually caught early and most hospitals have a lactation specialist that will determine if your baby is latching on wrong. If you continue to have problems in the first week, you should consult your doctor.

Not only is breast milk good for the baby, but it’s good for the mother as well. Mothers that breast feed for at least six months show a dramatically reduced risk of various types of cancer including breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Through breast feeding, the mother will lose the extra weight she gained while pregnant and it will also help her uterus contract to its pre-baby size.

Despite any complications one might have breastfeeding; it will be the best experience a new mother will have. There will come a time in life when you look back on the experience and wish you had breast fed for longer.

New parents want to give their babies the very best. When it comes to nutrition, the best first food for babies is breast milk.

More than two decades of research have established that breast milk is perfectly suited to nourish infants and protect them from illness. Breast-fed infants have lower rates of hospital admissions, ear infections, diarrhea, rashes, allergies, and other medical problems than bottle-fed babies.

“There are 4,000 species of mammals, and they all make a different milk. Human milk is made for human infants, and it meets all their specific nutrient needs,” says Ruth Lawrence, M.D., professor of pediatrics and obstetrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, N.Y., and spokeswoman for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Health experts say increased breast-feeding rates would save consumers money, spent both on infant formula and in health-care dollars. It could save lives as well.

“We’ve known for years that the death rates in Third World countries are lower among breast-fed babies,” says Lawrence. “Breast-fed babies are healthier and have fewer infections than formula-fed babies.”

Although breast-feeding is still the best nourishment for infants, infant formula is a close enough second that babies not only survive but thrive. Commercially prepared formulas are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.

The nutritional adequacy of commercially prepared formula is also ensured by the agency’s nutrient requirements and its safety by strict quality control procedures that require manufacturers to analyze each batch of formula for required nutrients, to test samples for stability during the shelf life of the product, to code containers to identify the batch, and to make all records available to FDA investigators.

The composition of infant formula is similar to breast milk, but it isn’t a perfect match, because the exact chemical makeup of breast milk is still unknown.

Human milk is very complex, and scientists are still trying to unravel and understand what makes it such a good source of nutrition for rapidly growing and developing infants.

More than half the calories in breast milk come from fat, and the same is true for today’s infant formulas. This may be alarming to many American adults watching their intake of fat and cholesterol, especially when sources of saturated fats, such as coconut oil, are used in formulas. (In adults, high intakes of saturated fats tend to increase blood cholesterol levels more than other fats or oils.) But the low-fat diet recommended for adults doesn’t apply to infants.

The reason is that infants have a high energy requirement, and they have a restricted volume of food that they can ingest. The way to meet these energy requirements in a restricted amount of food is to have a high amount of fat.

While greater knowledge about human milk has helped scientists improve infant formula, it has become “increasingly apparent that infant formula can never duplicate human milk,” wrote John D. Benson, Ph.D, and Mark L. Masor, Ph.D., in the March 1994 issue of Endocrine Regulations. “Human milk contains living cells, hormones, active enzymes, immunoglobulins and compounds with unique structures that cannot be replicated in infant formula.”

Benson and Masor, both of whom are pediatric nutrition researchers at infant formula manufacturer Abbott Laboratories, believe creating formula that duplicates human milk is impossible. “A better goal is to match the performance of the breastfed infant,” they wrote. Performance is measured by the infant’s growth, absorption of nutrients, gastrointestinal tolerance, and reactions in blood.

There are very few medical reasons why a mother shouldn’t breast-feed, according to Lawrence.

Most common illnesses, such as colds, flu, skin infections, or diarrhea, cannot be passed through breast milk. In fact, if a mother has an illness, her breast milk will contain antibodies to it that will help protect her baby from those same illnesses.

A few viruses can pass through breast milk, however. HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is one of them. Women who are HIV positive should not breast-feed.

A few other illnesses–such as herpes, hepatitis, and beta streptococcus infections–can also be transmitted through breast milk. But that doesn’t always mean a mother with those diseases shouldn’t breast-feed, Lawrence says.

“Each case must be evaluated on an individual basis with the woman’s doctor,” she says.

Breast cancer is not passed through breast milk. Women who have had breast cancer can usually breast-feed from the unaffected breast. Studies have shown, however, that breast-feeding a child reduces a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer later.

Silicone breast implants usually do not interfere with a woman’s ability to nurse, but if the implants leak, there is some concern that the silicone may harm the baby. Some small studies have suggested a link between breast-feeding with implants and later development of problems with the child’s esophagus. Further studies are needed in this area. But if a woman with implants wants to breast-feed, she should first discuss the potential benefits and risks with her child’s doctor.

There is nothing worse than when your baby is sick, and so of course you are going to want to know how to properly take care of a sick baby, so that if your baby ever becomes sick – and all of us who are already parents know how often this happens – that you will know how to take care of a sick baby and therefore you will not need to worry and you can feel safe knowing that they will be in good hands.

How do I Take Care of a Sick Baby?

Basically the first thing that you are going to want to do in regards to taking care of a sick baby is to determine whether or not the baby is actually sick. The first and most important sign is that the baby will have a fever, and so if they do then you can pretty much tell that the baby is sick because a fever is the body’s way of letting you know that there is something wrong.

Once you can tell that they have a fever, than you are going to have to really know how to take care of a sick baby. The first thing that you are going to want to make sure that you do is have them cooled down a bit, and so you don’t want them overheating so you are going to want to make sure that they are in light clothing and that they have a cool facecloth if they need it.

As well, you are going to want to make sure that you keep them hydrated, and so this means making sure that they get plenty of fluids and that they are eating well also, and depending on how old the baby is, this will obviously determine what you can and cannot feed them; if the baby is still young enough that they are only on milk, then make sure they get plenty of milk, whereas if the baby is older then you can give them soup or something like that in order to keep them eating.

You will want to bring your baby to the doctor regardless of how old they are if they have a fever, just to make sure, because there are so many different things that can go wrong with babies and so you want to make sure that they are okay and the only real way you can do this is by bringing them to the doctors.

Most new mothers and fathers look tired because usually they are tired. Most of the fatigue comes from the demanding schedule parents must keep to care for their newborn babies. Some of the fatigue just comes from the worry that they might not care for every need of their baby. Some parents lose sleep because they worry that they might not be there if their baby needs something after they fall asleep. The parents sometimes lose sleep because they wake up even if the baby does not cry just because they worry that the baby might be crying. An Angel Care baby monitor will help to ease the mind of the most anxious parent of a newborn baby.

An Angel Care baby monitor can be placed close to the baby so they parents can hear them from other parts of the home. An Angel Care baby monitor will conduct the sounds of the baby to the parents. The Angel Care baby monitor will conduct the good sounds and the bad. The mother working in the kitchen will know when the baby wakes up whether they are crying or laughing. The joys of hearing that little laugh will be transmitted throughout the house to signal the baby is doing fine.

An Angel Care Baby Monitor Comes in Different Models for Individual Needs

Angel Care baby monitors now come in wireless models to eliminate a bunch of ugly wires running through the house. These models are very sensitive to the sounds of a baby in a remote location. These models will amplify the sounds of a baby laughing or a baby in distress. Some of these models have sensors that can be put under the mattress in the crib of the baby. An Angel Care baby monitor will pick up the slightest sounds

The Angel Care baby monitor will also alert the doting parents if there is no movement coming from the crib. All babies move so this baby monitor will check on the lack of movement. An Angel Care baby monitor will alert the parents if the baby does stop moving about. The parents will then be able to immediately check on the baby. At other times, the parents will be glad to take care of the baby at the first sign of any disturbance. An Angel Care baby monitor will make a great gift for any new parent so friends and family looking for a great gift need not look any further. The gift giver will be remembered every time a sound comes through the baby monitor.

In health the countenance of a thild is expressive of serenity in mind and body; but if the child be unwell, this expression will be changed, and in a manner which, to a certain extent, will indicate what part of the system is at fault.

The brows will be contracted, if there is pain, and its seat is in the head. This is frequently the very first outward sign of any thing being wrong, and will occur at the very onset of disease; if therefore remarked at an early period, and proper remedies used, its notice may prevent one of the most fearful of infantile complaints “Water in the Head.”

If this sign is passed by unheeded, and the above disease be threatened, soon the eyes will become fixed and staring, the head hot, and moved uneasily from side to side upon the pillow, or lie heavily upon the nurse’s arm, the child will start in its sleep, grinding its teeth, and awake alarmed and screaming, its face will be flushed, particularly the cheeks (as if rouged), its hands hot, but feet cold, its bowels obstinately costive, or its motions scanty, dark-coloured, and foul.

If the lips are drawn apart, so as to show the teeth or gums, the seat of the pain is in the belly. This sign, however, will only be present during the actual existence of suffering; if, therefore, there be any doubt whether it exist, press upon the stomach, and watch the eifect on the expression of the countenance.

If the pain arise simply from irritation of the bowels excited from indigestion, it will be temporary, and the sign will go and come just as the spasm may occur, and slight remedial measures will give relief.

If, however, the disease be more serious, and inflammation ensue, this sign will be more constantly present, and soon the countenance will become pale, or sallow and sunken, the child will dread motion, and lie upon its back with the knees bent up to the belly, the tongue will be loaded, and in breathing, while the chest will be seen to heave with more than usual effort, the muscles of the belly will remain perfectly quiescent.

If the nostrils are drawn upwards and in quick motion, pain exists in the chest. This sign, however, will generally be the accompaniment of inflammation of the chest, in which case the countenance will be discoloured, the eyes more or less staring, and the breathing will be difficult and hurried; and if the child’s mode of respiring be watched, the chest will be observed to be unmoved, while the belly quickly heaves with every inspiration.

Convulsions are generally preceded by some changes in the countenance. The upper lip will be drawn up, and is occasionally bluish or livid. Then there may be slight squinting, or a singular rotation of the eye upon its own axis; alternate flushing or paleness of the face; and sudden animation followed by languor.

These signs will sometimes manifest themselves many hours, nay days, before the attack occurs; may be looked upon as premonitory; and if timely noticed, and suitable medical aid resorted to, the occurrence of a fit may be altogether prevented.

The state of the eyes should always be attended to. In health they are clear and bright, but in disease they become dull, and give a heavy appearance to the countenance; though after long continued irritation they will assume a degree of quickness which is very remarkable, and a sort of pearly brightness which is better known from observation than it can be from description.

The direction of the eyes, too, should be regarded, for from this we may learn something. When the infant is first brought to the light, both eyes are scarcely ever directed to the same object: this occurs without any tendency to disease, and merely proves, that regarding one object with both eyes is only an acquired habit. But when the child has come to that age when the eyes are by habit directed to the same object, and afterwards it loses that power, this circumstance alone may be looked upon as a frequent prelude to disease affecting the head.
