Kids are more likely to play than to stay at home and do their home work. If parents will always allow their children to stay outside more than their stay inside their houses, children are surely to miss some things. When outside, kids are inclined to adapt the things which they heard from the neighbor or perform the actions they saw from a friend.
As parents, do you think such act is still tolerable? Responsible parents will not agree so. At an early age, parents must nurture the development of their children and teach them what they should know.
In order to shun your children from making friends with delinquent people, provide them something that will keep them busy and occupied. It should be something that is beneficial to your kids. Or it should be a thing from which your children can learn positively. How about considering children’s literature?
When your children are unoccupied and idle, you might ask yourself what will be the role of literature in their lives. The answer is simple – Children’s literature will provide your children a busy yet worthwhile day that is better than playing outside most of the time.
The children of today are exposed to many caprices and immoralities. To safeguard your children from the non-sense world and guide them to the useful world, literature could greatly help them a lot. Picture books are usually their first introduction to literature and popular culture.
Now, what is the literature genre suited for your children? There are wide choices of genres which are appropriate for both young and old readers. Some of them are:
* Modern Realistic Fiction
This has been the most popular genre among children. There are actually two reasons why this is the most read literature. First, because it nearly depicts the lives of some people they know. Second, it is a lot easier and simpler to read compared to other genres.
* Fanciful Fiction
Most of the classic children’s literature exists in the realm of fanciful fiction because of its ageless quality. One best example of this is the story of Snow White and Cinderella.
* Historical and Regional Fiction
This genre gives chances for children to live harmoniously in time and place they cannot experience in some way. A well-made story can give past or present incidents that promote the growth of thoughts that lead to protection and appreciation of other people in the real world.
* Biography
With the help of modern media, people are able to acknowledge real life characters into their lives. Literary biographies also present a piece of a person’s life. However, even before biography offers a sense of completeness and continuity within a background in their portrayal of a life. Children will easily recognize and appreciate life once they get inspired of any biographies of a known man.
* Informational Materials
Since we are living in an information age, we must be careful of the types of information that we will render to our children. Such literature is mainly for enjoyment and education. Remember, children easily memorize the things that you tell or provide them. So, make sure that the informational materials you will give them are really for informational purposes and not for any thing else.
* Poetry
Examples of these are the nursery rhymes they have learned from pre-school. If your children’s age is from 8 to 11, then there is no harm to still give them children poetry books. In fact poetry books are helpful in teaching them great values and education.
If you care about your children, you’ll probably know what is best for them. Children’s literature is only a way to make your children informed and educated in the best way possible. Anyway, it is better than letting them outside and wander on their own.
