Purchasing children’s furniture can be overwhelming as well as exciting for you and your kids. There are several things to consider when selecting furniture pieces. Style, design, and functionality of the furniture are made sure to accord with the room’s shape and size.
Surely oversize furniture would make a room seem smaller and consume a lot of extra space. Incidents of disproportions should be well avoided by carefully keeping in mind the room to be furnished and not be carried away by the attractiveness of every furniture piece you encounter. Try to resist the urge of being in love at first sight with furniture – or you might end up regretting it.
There is a wide variety of furniture for your children in the market. May it be of contemporary style, classical antique, utilitarian, or customized, it is best if the pieces you would choose are sturdy and stable and can last a lifetime. When the children are all grown up, it would be a wonderful sentimental experience for them if the old desks or beds of there childhood years are still usable and as good as new.
The child’s age is also considered in buying furniture. Children of very tender age, like babies and toddlers, nursery furniture pieces are selected. Several pieces are cradles or cribs, chests of drawers, changing tables, little tables and chairs, play pens, lampshades and nightlights, and toy chests or shelves. If the child is already strong enough to walk about and this might cause some harm to himself, it is advisable to place bumper pads on sharp edges of the furniture to prevent injuries. The room should also be furnished with soft carpeting, this serves as a buffer for unavoidable falls. Another thing is that furniture with small detachable pieces should be avoided. As toddlers, they are very curious and mischievous. They could swallow tiny things and be choked by these pieces.
As the child grows, furniture changes follow. Bigger pieces are bought and as he begins some schooling, he would need a desk, reading lamp, and bookshelves. The crib is then replaced with a proper bed. There are new designs out there that can combine the bed and the desk. The design is made possible by elevating the bed by at least up to adult’s standard height. The space below is where the desk is placed serving as a study area.
And speaking of beds, there are numerous designs to choose from. Bunk beds are great for a room with two children to save up some space. In selecting bunk beds, choose one that has a stable base and ladder. There are also a great number of variations in single bed designs. Beds shaped like cars are popular among boys, while girls prefer beds with canopies. Whatever the youngsters choose, style and shape should be considered to avoid design collisions with the size of the room and other furniture pieces previously bought. And though the amalgamation of designs is in vogue these days, make sure that the designs you and your children choose complement each other.
Furniture shopping for your children can be a great source of enjoyment and challenge. It takes a huge amount of patience in searching for the right furniture in stores, but because quality should be on top of your list it is worth the while to endure extra time until you found the right piece that you and your child can agree upon.
