Parents should orient their children about the importance of a mission and how they would carry it as they grow old. Children can understand its real purpose if they see it from their parents first hand. Children usually make their parents as their role models, so if they see that their parents are living their life on a mission, then the children could follow their footsteps.
There are appropriate stories, games and other materials providing information to children about translations in the bible, other countries and reasons stated in the bible about the importance of a mission. Missionary books containing the life of saints, martyrs and other religious materials could help the children develop a missionary life.
Mission can be accomplished through praying, helping a special or charity project, and supporting a missionary’s good deed. Charities are usually the best expression of a missionary work. The effects are immediately seen and felt by the less fortunate people. There are also websites in the Internet where children are encouraged to start a life of becoming a missionary.
Parents from elite families send their children to mission schools. Parents who were busy with their profession and cannot attend to their children regularly, chooses this option. They believe that mission education is the most excellent schooling arrangement for their children. Missionaries, priests or nuns usually run mission boarding schools. In an early age, children can gain knowledge about religious influences and instructions on how to respect life and live by a guiding mission of righteousness.
The children should be raised with a missionary mindset to be able to reach out to non-Christians. Some environmental factors might affect their mission if they enter school and socialize with other children. To ensure that their mission field is safe and secured, parents should know the conditions being faced by the children. Know the people who are involved with your children such as their teachers, friends, trainers and their family background.
Today, children are exposed to different issues about morality and spirituality. Parents should determine the risks being posted by these situations. Evaluate every issue and explain it to your children, never let them doubt their mission.
Interact with your children so that you could both share the same values. Raising your children to become missionaries in hostile environments could be very difficult. Parents should teach their children about trusting God within those environments.
Parents could also take their children on mission trips. This is one way of expanding their potentials about the ministry and experiences the life outside their comfort zones. Children can understand issues and problems of people in a certain community and how the church helps in uniting economic, racial and social boundaries through a guiding mission. This mission becomes a teaching event to cultivate compassion in children.
Children are able to give importance on how Christ sends his disciples to become missionaries and spread good words and good deeds to other people. Missionary trips can open the hearts of the children on other cultures, especially to minorities and poor countries. Staying by their mission of helping these people is an enormous achievement.
Whatever method you adapt, teaching your child about mission is a good option. Parents should properly guide their children so that the teachings can create an indelible mark in their hearts and passed it on to the next generations.
